Role -  Earthquake Repairs to campus buildings
Earthquake repairs and reinstatement works completed on the 3 CPIT campuses across Christchurch; this involved the Project and Construction  Management of the repairs to a total of 67 buildings.  Work commenced 2011 with a projected overall program for the repairs to be completed in 2017.  Five Pace PM project managers oversee the co–ordination of the consultants and various sub-contractors.

Consistency of output with the CPIT project has been one of the main challenges for Pace: liaising with the client, who has to check with department staff and tutors for access to areas that need to remain open; then relocating the classes or offices to somewhere else on the campus.  With limited space available due to some buildings being rendered unusable and with no temporary accommodation available, the program has been stretched out. Precise scheduling the work is a critical part of the process and to ensure that there is no disruption to the Campus’ business, a majority of the work is completed out of normal office hours and during semester breaks particularly at Xmas.
Initial budgeting of the repairs was estimated after a full scoping exercise was completed using an in-house designed iPad based system.

The estimates were tabled to CPIT and also peer reviewed by an independent consultant for the insurers.  Dealing directly with the client’s representative on site has made the process easier; difficult scenarios have been worked through to suit all parties after intensive consultation.
PacePM director Neil Walker was heavily involved assisting the client in regard to their insurance claim which was successfully settled
